Gander
Friday July 16, 2010It was another superb day in Newfoundland at James Paton Memorial Hospital and CIBC where we met crowds of cheerful faces. In the afternoon we came across a visitor, Joanne, who boarded the bus with an unbelievable story. On July 16, 2009 Joanne was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. Coincidentally, only a couple of days after her diagnosis the Tour for the Cure made a stop near her workplace in Gander. Joanne was not able to visit the bus in 2009 but almost exactly one year later, the Tour for the Cure was parked near her workplace once again. It was Joanneās first day back to work since her diagnosis and she was delighted to visit us. Joanne detected her own lump and is testimony that being breast aware can save your life.
